The standard VW Car-Net emergency system automatically connects the driver and passenger to emergency response personnel in the event of an accident. VW Car-Net also features roadside assistance, geo-fencing and vehicle location.
Optional safety equipment is a forward collision warning system, blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors.
The construction of the 2017 Golf R has contributed to it being recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The organization gave the 2017 Golf R an overall 5-star safety rating.
In the individual safety crash categories, the 2017 Golf R received four stars for frontal crash tests, five stars for side crash tests and four stars for rollover tests.
