2017 Volkswagen Tiguan
Perhaps to satisfy Americans’ desire for spacious vehicles, 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is so much bigger that it has outgrown the “small SUV” segment to go against Mitsubishi Outlander-sized SUVs adequately. The new Tiguan represents the second generation of the Tiguan family since it was first launched in 2007. It comes loaded with a bigger suite of in-car technology and safety features as well as a wider range of engines.

Body Styles and Options
The five-passenger 2017 VW Tiguan is availed in four trims: the Tiguan S, the Tiguan Wolfsburg, the Tiguan Sport, and the Tiguan SEL.
Standard on the Tiguan S is 16-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, black roof rails, keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights and wipers, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Also provided are a rearview camera, heated front seats, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, a driver information display, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, V-Tex premium vinyl upholstery, and a 40/20/40-split reclining and sliding backseat,
The infotainment system is controlled from a 6.3-inch touchscreen and audio controls on the steering column. Additional entertainment features comprise a Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, an auxiliary audio jack, an eight-speaker sound system, a USB port, a CD player, two SD card slots, an HD and satellite radio. VW’s Car-Net App-Connect smartphone integration system supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink.
Above the S trim is the Wolfsburg Edition that adds 17-inch wheels, silver roof rails, a panoramic sunroof, power lumbar and reclining front passenger seat, and VW’s Car-Net Security and Service emergency communications.
The Sports trim receives 18-inch wheels, fog lights, and adaptive xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, cornering lights, body-colored exterior panels, power-folding mirrors, a sport-tuned suspension, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a navigation system, and additional passenger seat adjustability.
The top of the range SEL trim features all mentioned components excluding the Sports’ colored panels. It is suited with 19-inch wheels and given a premium Fender audio system and an enhanced rearview camera. A trailer hitch is an option to all trim levels.

The new Tiguan is built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform which is expected to improve all its aspects. It ushers in a new styling language for Volkswagen as it is muscular, boxier, and sharper in its entirety than most of its siblings.
The new Tiguan is sportier and a tad lighter than the prior model. It also seats lower and features a longer wheelbase than the first generation versions. It adds 60 mm to its length which results in a 77 mm wheelbase increase.
An increased physical width and wider placements of both headlights and grille give the new SUV a full appearance. The “Highline” package that comes standard with the optional full-LED headlights also help to accentuate the front fascia.
The latest Tiguan is characterized by a higher positioned waistline and a slightly raised V-shaped bonnet.

Standard on 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine that pushes out 200 galloping horses and 207 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission that directs power to the front wheels. Buyers can also opt for an AWD drivetrain.
In Edmunds’ testing, an FWD Tiguan dashed from zero to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds – an excellent time for a compact crossover.
EPA estimates that it will return 20/24 mpg for city/highway on both front and all-wheel drivetrains.
